Gunmen Strike NIPSS Again, One Killed as Security Forces Fight Back

—

The National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, Plateau State, has successfully repelled another midnight attack by suspected gunmen, with one of the attackers shot dead during a fierce gun battle.

The attempted invasion occurred at about 11 p.m. on Wednesday when the armed men allegedly tried to breach the institute’s security perimeter. Alert security personnel swiftly engaged the assailants in a coordinated counteroffensive, forcing them to retreat.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the institute’s Head of Public Affairs, Dr. Osime Samuel, confirmed that the attackers were overpowered after an intense exchange of gunfire.

According to the statement, one of the suspected gunmen was killed during the operation, while several others reportedly fled the scene with varying degrees of gunshot injuries.

The institute reassured participants of its programmes, members of staff, their families, and the general public that the safety of lives and property remains its top priority. It also urged residents to ignore unverified reports capable of causing unnecessary panic.

The latest attack comes less than two weeks after suspected gunmen launched a similar assault on the prestigious policy institute and its surrounding community, raising fresh concerns over security in the area.
