NYSC: Sani Tasks Corps Members on Community Development, Vigilance

Sani made the call on Wednesday at the closing ceremony of the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream II Orientation Course in Kaduna.

The governor, who was represented by the Commissioner for Youth Development, Mrs Gloria Ibrahim, commended the corps members for their discipline, patriotism and commitment throughout the orientation program.

He urged them to identify the needs of their host communities through the Community Development Service (CDS) and to develop projects the improve residents’ lives.

“Touch lives positively and leave a lasting impact. Do not let the service year pass through you, rather, pass through the service year,” Sani said.

The governor also urged the corps members to respect the cultures and traditions of their host communities while contributing to local development.

He assured them that the state government would continue to collaborate with security agencies and NYSC management to protect corps members throughout their service year.

Sani urged the corps members to remain vigilant and security-conscious, particularly as they settle into their various host communities.

He also advised them to accept their postings in good faith, settle down promptly and carry out their duties with dedication.

The governor appealed to employers in both the public and private sectors to warmly receive corps members posted to their organizations.

He urged employers to mentor the young graduates and provide supportive environments where they could contribute effectively to organizational development.

Sani further encouraged the corps members to participate actively in the post-camp Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development Program.

He said the program would equip them with practical skills to become employers of labor and reduce their dependence on scarce formal employment opportunities.

Earlier, the NYSC Coordinator in Kaduna State, Mrs Efeke Dadaza, urged the corps members to settle quickly at their places of primary assignment and serve with determination, integrity and hard work.

Dadaza advised them to respect the cultures and traditions of their host communities and avoid moving alone, particularly at night.

She also appealed to the state government to sustain its support for the welfare of corps members during orientation and throughout their service year.

The coordinator specifically requested assistance with feeding augmentation, payment of monthly state allowances for corps members serving in government parastatals and the provision of a permanent orientation camp.

Dadaza expressed appreciation to stakeholders, particularly the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Federal Fire Service (FFS) and National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), for their support during the orientation exercise.

She also commended camp officials for their commitment to ensuring the successful completion of the program.

The coordinator disclosed that she would retire from service on Oct. 5, describing the closing ceremony as possibly her last before joining the ranks of retired senior citizens.
