Ex-Driver Gets Death Sentence for Killing 80-Year-Old Employer and Wife in Abuja

—

A Federal High Court in Abuja has sentenced Jonathan Marcus to death by hanging for the brutal murder of his former employer, 80-year-old Adebola Ezekiel, and his wife, Abiodun Ezekiel, at their residence in Apo Legislative Quarters, Abuja.

The couple was found murdered on April 1, 2024, sparking an intensive police investigation that eventually tracked Marcus to Obajana, Kogi State, where he had fled and gone into hiding after the killings.

Police investigations revealed that Marcus, who had previously worked as the couple’s driver, was dismissed following a series of disagreements with his employers.

During interrogation, the convict confessed to sneaking into the victims’ residence at about 11:00 p.m. on April 1, 2024, before brutally killing the elderly couple.

He was subsequently arraigned before the FCT High Court, where prosecutors presented evidence linking him to the double murder.
Delivering judgment, Justice M. S. Idris held that the prosecution had established its case beyond reasonable doubt.

The court consequently found Marcus guilty and sentenced him to death by hanging for the murder of Adebola and Abiodun Ezekiel.

Reacting to the verdict, the FCT Police Command described the judgment as a testament to the justice system’s resolve to hold violent offenders accountable.

The Command, through its spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property across the Federal Capital Territory, assuring residents that criminals would continue to face the full weight of the law.
