Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, has approved N1 billion to support the immediate takeoff of the newly created Federal University of Agriculture and Entrepreneurship in Bama.
He made the announcement on Tuesday while receiving an inter-ministerial team at the Government House in Maiduguri.
The delegation included officials from the Federal Ministry of Education, the National Universities Commission (NUC), the Budget Office, and the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation.
The new university was established after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu signed into law a bill sponsored by Senator Kaka Lawan on May 22.
Governor Zulum noted that the state government had earlier handed over the Umar Ibn Ibrahim Elkanemi College of Education, Science, and Technology in Bama to the Federal Government to fast-track the start of academic activities.
“I am announcing a donation of N1 billion for the takeoff of the university,” he said.
He instructed the state commissioner for education to identify key priority areas where the funds should be used.
Zulum emphasized that, although the university is a federal institution, its benefits will largely be enjoyed by the people of Borno. He added that every federal institution in the state is considered a part of Borno’s development.
The governor also promised to build staff quarters and provide additional support for the new university.
He praised President Bola Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senator Kaka Lawan, and the Minister of Education for making the establishment of the university a reality.
