Governor Yusuf appoints Ganduje and Kwankwaso as members of Kano Elders Forum

—

Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has established the Kano Council, a body intended to provide advice to the state government under his leadership.

In a press conference at the Governor’s Lodge in Abuja, Governor Yusuf announced the inclusion of notable figures such as Abdullahi Ganduje, the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and Rabiu Kwankwaso, the 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), as members of the Kano State Elders Forum.

This Elders Council, as outlined by the governor, is set to comprise various dignitaries, including former governors, deputy governors, Senate presidents, speakers of the House of Representatives, deputy speakers, speakers of the State House of Assembly, deputy speakers of the State House of Assembly, retired Supreme Court justices, retired Appeal Court justices, and former chief justices of the state.

Moreover, the council will include individuals who have served as former secretaries to the state government, former heads of Kano State Civil Service who are native to the state, leaders of the Ulama, members of the business community, and representatives from traditional institutions.

Additionally, former heads of security agencies from Kano State are enlisted, along with a provision for the identification and appointment of “such other elders” by the government into the council.

The timing of this announcement coincides with the Supreme Court’s judgment affirming Governor Yusuf as the duly elected governor of Kano State.

The formation of the Kano Council reflects a purposeful initiative to unite a varied group of seasoned individuals, aiming to actively participate in the state’s governance and decision-making procedures.

This assembly endeavors to assemble a diverse range of experienced members who will collectively contribute their insights and expertise to shape the direction and choices of the state.
