Ghana marks its 67th Independence Day with Festivities

Ghana is celebrating its 67th Independence Day with grand festivities. The celebrations mark the nation’s liberation from British colonial rule, a significant milestone in its history.

The event was held in Koforidua, the capital of the Eastern Region, which is the third region to host the national anniversary celebration, following the Central and Volta Regions in previous years.

The theme for the year’s celebration “Our Democracy, Our Pride,” emphasizes Ghana’s commitment to democratic values and governance.

The event was attended by various dignitaries, including President Alassane Ouattara of Côte d’Ivoire as the Special Guest of Honour, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Bagbin, and numerous diplomats.

The celebration included a parade involving security services, students, pupils, and various groups and institutions. Additionally, commemorations were held in selected municipalities in Accra, with activities such as marches and events hosted at schools like Accra High School.

One of the highlights of the celebration was the delivery of an Independence Day speech by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
