FG to extend school feeding program to encompass elementary education

The Federal Government said the Home Grown School Feeding Programme will cover more than just primary schools when it starts again.

Dr. Folake Olatunji-David, who works in Basic Education at the Ministry of Education, spoke about this at an event in Abuja.

She praised a new initiative called Create that Change Development Initiative (CCDI) for its efforts in helping children and society.

She said the initiative’s ideas match with what President Bola Tinubu’s administration wants to do.

Dr. Olatunji-David mentioned that the school feeding program was paused but will return better than before.

Before, it only focused on primary schools. But now, President Tinubu wants it to include all basic education.

“We all know that we have the homegrown programme that is being put on hold for now. It is coming back stronger and better. Before now, it only covered a segment of primary school. The President (Tinubu) has said it will be for basic education in its entirety”.

She explained that they are planning carefully to make sure it’s done well when it restarts. They want to be ready to follow any instructions they receive.

“We are planning; we don’t just want to come out without planning to ensure as soon as we receive the directive, proper implementation is done. If it is the whole of primary school or basic education, it will be done properly. We await further directives on this,”.

Mrs. Sharon Ayeni, who leads CCDI, shared that her vision for the initiative came from a desire to help those in need in Nigeria. She believes it’s a way to make a positive impact and address important challenges.
