As part of the Presidential Palliative Programme, the federal government has launched the Presidential Conditional Grant Scheme (PCGS) to empower nano enterprises.

Starting on March 9th, the programme provides financial incentives to qualified small business owners who operate in a variety of industries, including trade, food services, ICT, transportation, creative industries, and artisan industries, with no return restrictions.

Seventy per cent of the PCGS is aimed towards women and young people, ten per cent towards at-risk individuals, and five per cent towards senior folks. The remaining fifteen per cent is allocated to other demographic groups.

The plan aims to unleash the potential of Nigeria’s emerging entrepreneurial ecosystem and promote sustainable economic growth at the local level by concentrating on the frequently disregarded group of business owners. A payment of N50,000.00 (fifty thousand naira) per beneficiary would be extended to one million small enterprises in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT)’s six council areas and 774 local government areas (LGAs).

With a target of one million beneficiaries in each LGA and the FCT, the programme has the potential to have a major national impact on communities. The initiative’s beneficiaries have been chosen via a stringent selection procedure that involves verifying each business owner using their Bank Verification Number (BVN) and National Identity Number (NIN).

The chosen candidates fulfilled several requirements, such as having a small company with room for growth and the ability to hire at least one more employee as needed.

Before the deadline of December 18, 2023, applicants also had to submit documentation of their residential or company address, as well as pertinent personal and bank account details.

The government’s dedication to assisting small-scale business owners and promoting equitable economic growth is demonstrated by the Presidential Conditional Grant Scheme.

The PCGS is well-positioned to significantly improve the lives of small business entrepreneurs and their communities throughout Nigeria by emphasising empowerment and inclusivity. The Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment is in charge of carrying out the programme, while the Bank of Industry serves as the Executing Agency.
