Aliyu Tijjani Ahmed, who holds the position of Federal Commissioner at the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons (NCRMI), recently shared important details during a visit to the Muna Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp in the Jere Local Government Area of Borno State.
In a generous effort, the Federal Commissioner distributed food items and relief materials to five hundred households at the mentioned IDP camp.
Additionally, he disclosed that the Federal Government has solidified plans to repatriate refugees from Cameroon, Chad, and Niger Republic back to their communities in Borno State. These individuals had been displaced due to the Boko Haram Insurgency.
Mr. Ahmed elaborated on these plans during a visit to a satellite city constructed for refugees affected by the Boko Haram insurgency in Marua, Mafa Local Government Area of Borno State.
He emphasized that a tripartite meeting would take place to discuss the evacuation of refugees from Cameroon, Niger, and Chad.
The commission, along with the government of Borno State and UNCHR, will collaborate to establish processes and procedures for this evacuation.
The Federal Commissioner further highlighted the intention to develop similar satellite cities with sustainable livelihood sources across the nation to facilitate the resettlement of displaced persons.
During his visit to the Muna IDP camp, he not only provided assistance to five hundred households but also extended support to those affected by fire outbreaks in the camp.
As part of the commitment to aiding displaced individuals, the Federal Commissioner toured skills acquisition centers set up for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and explored the satellite city in Marua.
He expressed a firm commitment to initiating the resettlement process in the first quarter of 2024, signaling a positive step toward rebuilding the lives of those affected by conflicts and disasters.
