BREAKING: Council Chairman and 3 Others Kidnapped in Benue State

On Saturday, an unfortunate incident unfolded along the Zaki-Biam/Katsina-Ala road in Benue State, where unknown Gunmen abducted the Chairman of Ukum Local Government Area (LGA), Reverend Haanongon Gideon, and three others.

The group, including the Council Chairman, was en route to the burial ceremony of Ter Katsina-Ala, HRH Chief Ferzaanga Wombo.

Chief Ferzaanga Wombo holds significance as the father of Solomon Wombo, a member of the House of Representatives representing Katsina-Ala/Logo/Ukum Federal constituency.

Among those abducted alongside the Council Chairman are his Personal Assistant on Administration, Silas Yuhwam, his driver, and his police orderly.

The Council Secretary, Jonathan Modi, confirmed the distressing incident in a statement, noting that it occurred at approximately 6:30 am.

The Ukum Local Government Area Executive Council expressed dismay over the kidnapping, urging citizens to remain calm and law-abiding.

The statement highlighted the ongoing efforts to secure the release of Chairman Rev. Haanongon Gideon.

The abduction took place in the vicinity of Anyagba, Tongov, in Katsina Ala LGA. The council assured the public that measures were being implemented to ensure the Chairman’s safe return.

The Council Secretary, in an appeal to citizens, urged cooperation during this challenging time.

Efforts were made to seek confirmation from the State Command of the Nigeria Police. However, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Sewuese Anene, stated that she had not been briefed on the incident.

The lack of official confirmation adds an additional layer of uncertainty to the situation.
