The Federal Ministry of Education has expressed its intention to enroll three million out-of-school children in schools by the year 2024.
The ministry is seeking collaboration with various stakeholders to achieve this ambitious goal.
Dr. Claris Ojham, the Special Adviser to the Minister of State for Education, shared this information during the third edition of the “Walk for Education 3.0” event organized by the FlexiSAF Foundation in Abuja.
Dr. Ojham highlighted the partnership with Flexixer to bring back all out-of-school children to classrooms, especially focusing on providing educational opportunities for the less privileged.
She emphasized the importance of the “Walk for Education” as a motivational message, suggesting that when children see prominent figures advocating for education through such events, they are inspired to attend school and aspire to be like those role models.
Dr. Kashifu Inuwa, the Director-General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), also spoke at the event.
He shared the agency’s target to implement the national literacy framework, aiming to achieve 95% digital literacy by the year 2030.
Dr. Inuwa mentioned plans to collaborate with foundations like FlexiSAF to define initiatives for quality and inclusive access to education through digital infrastructure.
NITDA is considering deploying three learning centers per state, particularly in public schools lacking proper infrastructure.
Dr. Inuwa stressed the importance of digital infrastructure in ensuring quality education, revealing that NITDA has implemented over 1200 projects in underserved communities within the education system over the past four years.
The agency aims to continue these efforts and achieve its target of 95% digital literacy by 2030.
Amina Abubakar, the Executive Director of FlexiSAF, called upon the National Assembly to allocate 26% of the N27.50 billion budget for 2024 to fund education.
She expressed concern about the current state of the education sector, describing it as being in a state of emergency.
Abubakar emphasized the need for increased financial support to address the challenges and improve the overall education system in Nigeria.
