Following a violent brawl that occurred during the Turkish Süper Lig game between Fenerbahçe and Trabzonspor a fortnight ago, the Turkish Football Federation has summoned three Fenerbahçe players, including Bright Osayi, for a disciplinary hearing.
In a video that went viral on all social media platforms, irate home fans violently infested the pitch after the blockbuster match between the rival teams ended that went in the favour of Fenerbahçe, which commanded a 2-3 victory.
The attack was fueled after Fenerbahçe players and members of the coaching staff celebrated their victory, which then resulted in goalkeeper Dominik Livakovic receiving a punch in his face.
Bright Osayi punched one of the pitch invaders who was on the mask, Dutch defender Jayden Oosterwolde, is suspected to have assaulted the fan.
Three players, including Bright Osayi and the club’s employees along with a Trabzonspor assistant coach, will now face disciplinary hearings according to the Turkish Football Federation.
The Super Eagles defender who spoke after the atrocious incident described his involvement in the fight as ‘Self-defense’.
“The fans attacked the team, some had weapons on them, I had to defend my team, it was in self-defense, that’s what happened.”
“My teammates suffered cuts and bruises, some were scared, and several others also joined me to try to defend the team.”
