A Federal High Court in Abuja has stopped Multichoice Nigeria Limited, the company behind DStv and GOtv, from raising subscription prices.
This decision was made in response to Multichoice’s plan to increase prices starting May 1, 2024, citing higher operating costs in Nigeria.
Recall that Multichoice CEO John Ugbe notified subscribers via email about the price hikes. Under the new prices, the Premium package would rise to N37,000 monthly from N29,500, Compact+ to N25,000 from N19,800, and Compact to N15,700 from N12,500. GOtv packages like Supa Plus, Supa, Max, and Jolli would also see price increases.
However, the court’s order has halted these increases for now, giving relief to subscribers who have been worried about frequent price hikes.
This move follows criticism towards Multichoice for raising subscription fees three times in the past year.
