FCT Police Nab Suspected Kidnappers Flaunting AK-47s in Viral Video

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested suspected kidnappers seen in a viral video openly brandishing AK-47 rifles, ammunition, and walkie-talkies while dressed in military camouflage.

Confirming the arrest to newsmen, FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Sanusi, said he ordered a swift investigation immediately the video and accompanying images surfaced online, directing a full forensic analysis to trace their origin and identify those involved.

According to him, intelligence-led digital forensics led operatives of the FCT Police VCRU Sector 5, in collaboration with personnel of the Zuba Division, under the leadership of the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Ogu Caleb Ikechukwu, to a coordinated night operation in Runji Village, Zuba, on May 25 at about 3:22 a.m., where three suspects featured in the viral footage were arrested at their hideout.

The suspects were identified as Umar Babangida, 25; Adamu Yeti, 22; and Yahaya Idris, 24; all natives of Rijana in Kaduna State.

CP Sanusi said preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects had previously been in possession of AK-47 rifles allegedly supplied by their gang leader, identified only as “Esco,” who is currently at large and also linked to Rijana.

He added that further search of the suspects’ mobile phones uncovered additional videos and photographs showing them in military camouflage, posing with AK-47 rifles and walkie-talkies.

The suspects remain in custody as investigations continue, while efforts have intensified to track down the fleeing gang leader and other members of the syndicate, as well as recover the firearms in their possession.
