Eight Suspected Fake Pastors Arraigned by Anambra Govt for Violating State Laws

—

Eight pastors arrested mainly in Onitsha and Awka, and other parts of Anambra State, are currently being arraigned at the Anambra State High Court at the state judiciary complex in Awka.

A government source and media adviser to Anambra State Governor, Mr Ejimofor Opara, said the pastors, whom he described as fake pastors, violated the 2025 Homeland Security Law.

The law, which was enacted in February 2025, frowns upon certain forms of religious practices deemed inimical to the public, especially as they pertain to wealth creation.

Last year, some native doctors who were promoting get-rich-quick practices were also arrested. While some have been prosecuted and jailed, others are still undergoing trial.

In a video that trended today, the Governor’s media adviser, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Homeland Security, Chief Ken Emeakayi, was seen leading the suspects into the premises of the Anambra State High Court in Awka.

The News Chronicle correspondent gathered that the eight currently being arraigned are: Peter Chukwu, Chinedu Egwuonwu, Bishop Emeka Nwankpa, Ebele Nnachukwu, and Ekeleme Chris Ugochukwu.

The others are: Ndubisi Nnachukwu, Miracle Iruoma and Chukwukadibia Ogwuama.

The State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Tobechukwu Nweke, SAN, is leading the prosecution against the suspects.

As of the time of filing this report, the court was still in session.
