The Borno State Police Command has recovered an unexploded ordnance (UXO), identified as a hand grenade, from a drainage slab in the Moduganari area of Maiduguri, the state capital.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, Nahum Daso, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday evening, August 15, 2026, saying the recovery followed a report received at about 12:40 p.m. concerning a suspected explosive device.
According to the statement, operatives of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal-Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) Base 13, Maiduguri, were promptly deployed to the location following the directive of the Commissioner of Police, CP Naziru Abdulmajid.
The operatives safely recovered the suspected hand grenade and secured it for further examination, while an investigation is ongoing to determine its origin and the circumstances surrounding its discovery.
The police command commended residents who alerted the authorities and urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious objects or activities promptly.
The command also warned residents against touching, moving or tampering with suspected explosive devices, stressing that such items should only be handled by trained security personnel.
The Borno State Police Command reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property and called for continued cooperation from residents to enhance security across the state.
