Abai John Ehijator, who managed to escape from the Kuje Maximum Security Prison in Abuja on July 5, 2022, has broken his silence and spoken about his situation while in hiding.
He alleges that his detention in the prison was unjust, stemming from his involvement in the murder of a student at Ambrose Alli University in 2015.
In an interview, Abai John Ehijator, a former student of AAU in Ekpoma, claimed that he was framed for the murder of an SUG contestant named Jude due to his engagement in student union politics.
According to him, he was arrested in connection with the crime, and despite his lawyer’s efforts to delay prosecution for thorough investigation, he was transferred to Abuja and detained in Kuje Prison without trial among condemned prisoners.
Ehijator revealed that he and two others, Oseremen Charles and Godwin Lucky, were brought to the prison on November 13, 2018, after escaping from Ekpoma in Edo state.
He emphasized that since the jailbreak, he has been in hiding, as his name was published and declared wanted.
He expressed frustration over being on the run for an offense he claims he has not been tried and convicted for in a court of law.
Calling for attention to his case, Abai John Ehijator has appealed to the government of Nigeria and the international community to investigate his situation, asserting that his right to fair hearing was violated.
As he persists in avoiding the authorities, he reflects upon the prolonged nature of his concealment, underscoring the imperative for a fair resolution in his situation, emphasizing the necessity of justice being served in his particular case.
