The Anambra State branch of the Civil Liberties Organization, CLO has hailed the decision of President Ahmed Bola and the House of Representatives, to reverse the increment in the fees paid in Unity Schools, which went up to over one hundred percent.

It will be recalled that students resumed new sessions in September last year, only to witness outrageous school fee increments from #43,000 to #87000.

This has led to mass outrage by Nigerians, who believe the Federal Government should be alleviating the economic hardships necessitated by fuel subsidy removal, instead of aggravating them through such increment.

Civil rights and Liberties Organizations, alongside other patriots, had made passionate appeal to President Tinubu, to consider reversing the increments to avert more out-of-school children in the country.

In response to this, President Tinubu intervened to annul the increase, a move welcomed as a relief to students, parents, and the education system.

In a press statement issued to newsmen by Comrade Vincent Ezekwueme, the Chairman of the CLO in Anambra State, the group wrote, “to the glory of God, the President has harkened to the cries, pathetic and despicable condition of both students, parents, and Nigerians and has wiped away their tears through the reversal of the increments.”

“We appeal to President Tinubu to extend such education savings policy to our universities and tertiary institutions and ensure easy access to Students Loan and remove all beaureatic bottlenecks.

“This wise and patriotic decision has positive impacts on our students, parents, and our educational systems.

“It will be the greatest legacy if no Nigerian will be out of school due to paucity of funds.”

The group further commended the House of Representatives for what it described as ‘their unique wisdom in passing a resolution calling for the reversal of Unity Schools fees increments and other patriotic Nigerians that supported the reversal of Unity Schools  fees increments.’

“Education as the best and greatest investment should be made available, affordable, and accessible for all Nigerians, the Anambra CLO posited.

They called on President Tinubu to complete the rescue mission in the nation’s education sector by ensuring the removal of unauthorized charges in all Unity Schools, as well as other outrageous implements demanded by school authorities on resumption.
