The Arewa community in Anambra State has vowed to be alive to its role in maintaining the peace and tolerance that exists between its members and host communities in the state.

The Sarkin Fulani Awka and Chairman of the Arewa Community in Anambra State, Alhaji Gidado Siddiki reiterated the position in a message to Muslim faithful, to mark the successful completion of the holy month of Ramadan, and the Eid al-Fitr celebration, which marks the end of the sacred period.

Alhaji Siddiki, who felicitated with all Muslims on the celebration, said Ramadan, which is a time of fasting, prayer, sacrifice, and devotion to Almighty Allah, holds great significance for the Islamic religion.

He urged all Muslims, both in Nigeria and across the world, to continue to uphold the values of peace, patience, tolerance, and unity, which Ramadan had taught while it lasted.

The Sarkin Fulani Awka also emphasized the need for members of the Arewa community to remain steadfast in promoting peaceful coexistence between them and their host communities.

He further pleaded with the host communities, in the spirit of oneness, to accommodate their members in their legitimate business engagements, reminding them that Nigeria can only progress when its people are united.

“I also call on our members, particularly those residing in the South East, to remain law-abiding, disciplined, and responsible in all their activities.

“We must continue to protect and strengthen the long-standing peaceful relationship we enjoy with our host communities.

“To our host communities, we express our sincere appreciation for your continued support, understanding, and hospitality. We respectfully seek your cooperation in allowing us to carry out our legitimate livestock and agricultural businesses in peace. Together, we can build stronger unity and shared prosperity,” he said.

Siddiki commended the Governor of Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, for his inclusive leadership and support to the Arewa community, expressing particular gratitude for the opportunity to participate in the Iftar at the Government House and for his commitment toward providing a permanent site for their lawful business activities.

“Furthermore, we wish to affirm our unwavering support for the Governor’s political vision and future aspirations toward the 2027 elections.

“As a united community, we stand firmly behind his leadership and will support candidates and initiatives he endorses in the interest of peace, development, and continuity of good governance.

“We are also committed to engaging and sensitizing our brothers in the North to align with this shared vision for national unity and progress.

“We also encourage all citizens of Anambra State to continue supporting the government’s developmental efforts, as meaningful progress can only be achieved through collective responsibility and cooperation.

“As we celebrate Eid, may Almighty Allah accept our عبادات, forgive our shortcomings, and grant us lasting peace, unity, and prosperity,” he said.
