The Edo State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has activated a comprehensive special patrol ahead of the Easter celebrations, deploying no fewer than 860 personnel alongside operational equipment to curb road accidents across the state.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday in Benin by the Sector Public Education Officer, Patricia Onwochei.
According to Onwochei, the operation commenced on Wednesday and will continue until April 8, in compliance with the directive of the Corps Marshal to guarantee safer road use during and after the festive period.
She explained that the 860 operatives mobilised for the exercise include 510 regular marshals and 350 special marshals, all tasked with ensuring strict enforcement and road safety compliance.
The deployment also features a range of logistics, including patrol vehicles, ambulances, heavy-duty tow trucks, and power bikes to ensure wide and efficient coverage across the state.
Onwochei noted that the patrol would clamp down on major traffic violations such as speeding, reckless driving, phone use while driving, overloading, and other dangerous behaviours known to cause accidents.
“The Easter special patrol is aimed at achieving a reduction in road traffic crashes during the celebration and beyond, through intensified enforcement and traffic control measures,” she said.
She further stated that officers have been strategically positioned to oversee highway activities, regulate traffic flow, and provide swift emergency response where necessary.
Onwochei also called on motorists to obey traffic laws and make safety a priority, warning that enforcement efforts would remain firm throughout the period to safeguard lives and property.
