Dangote Unveils Massive Deep Seaport Plan in Ogun to Boost Trade and Exports

—

Dangote Industries Limited has commenced early-stage plans for the development of a massive 10,000-hectare deep seaport at the Olokola Free Trade Zone in Ogun State as part of efforts to expand Nigeria’s industrial and export capacity.

The multi-billion-dollar project is projected to boost maritime commerce, streamline logistics activities, and alleviate pressure on the current ports around the country. Along the Atlantic shore between Ogun and Ondo states, the planned seaport belongs to the long-term industrial growth plan of the company, Vision 2030.

The News Chronicle reported that Officials of Dangote Industries, headed by Capt. Jamil Abubakar, Managing Director of Infrastructure and Logistics, has started discussions with local stakeholders and host communities in advance of the full implementation of the project. The business claims that the deep seaport is being developed to serve as a primary entryway for regional trade, exports, and imports throughout Africa.

Furthermore, anticipated to assist the export of fertilizers, petrochemicals, and refined petroleum products, while making space for future liquefied natural gas shipments and heavy machinery imports, the facility’s development is apparently welcomed by traditional chiefs and community leaders in Ogun and Ondo states, who also promised support for the effort.

If properly executed, industry experts believe the initiative could significantly boost Nigeria’s trade competitiveness, spur economic development, and create thousands of jobs.
