Dangote Projects Ltd, the construction division of Dangote Industries Limited, has announced that it has a fleet of nearly 7,000 construction equipment, making it one of the world’s largest construction equipment owners.
The Group Vice President of Dangote Industries Limited, Edwin Devakumar, revealed this while the Kenyan President, William Ruto, was touring the Dangote Petroleum Refinery in Lagos.
Devakumar said Dangote initially acquired 2,563 construction machines, including 320 cranes, for the refinery project. Dangote Projects Expands Fleet To Nearly 7,000 Machines. More than 4,000 additional machines were later purchased as the company expanded its refinery and fertiliser operations.

He said the decision was driven by the limited capacity of Nigeria’s construction industry to handle a project of the refinery’s scale.
The News Chronicle reports that Dangote also developed supporting infrastructure for the project, including a quarry, concrete production facilities and a dedicated port capable of handling equipment weighing up to 3,000 tonnes.
The company built accommodation for about 50,000 workers, while peak employment on the project reached 63,000 people.
Dangote is now preparing to begin construction of a new refinery in Lamu, Kenya, with groundbreaking scheduled for September 30. The facility is expected to include a 1,000 MW power plant.
