CAS honors troops in Maiduguri, expressing optimism that a secure Nigeria is on the horizon

The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, shared that he sees a safe and secure Nigeria on the horizon if the Armed Forces of Nigeria stay focused on their responsibilities.

He emphasized that, apart from using force to address security challenges, a collaborative effort involving all sectors of society is crucial to win the support of Nigerians and effectively counter threats from terrorists and other non-state actors.

Air Marshal Abubakar, attending a Christmas luncheon for the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai in Maiduguri, mentioned that the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has been actively engaging with local communities through medical outreaches and welfare initiatives.

He highlighted that, during his leadership, NAF personnel at the frontlines have been consistently trained on international laws, rules of engagement, and human rights principles.

The Chief of the Air Staff noted that pilots, engineers, and technicians have received training on safety management to reduce risks associated with ongoing air operations.

Reflecting on the efforts of the Air Component, along with the Land and Maritime Components, he expressed satisfaction with the progress made, stating that the combined efforts have significantly impacted terrorist groups, leading to the surrender of militants and disruption of their activities.

Air Marshal Abubakar commended the dedication and sacrifices of the troops, recognizing their role in providing citizens with the opportunity to celebrate festive moments peacefully.

“In the last 6 months, we have all been witnesses to how your combined efforts, alongside our sister services have decimated scores of terrorist leaders, their foot soldiers as well as their structures and logistics.”

He emphasized the significance of Christmas as a time for expressing love, showing compassion, and renewing hope, drawing parallels between the humble beginnings of Christmas and the ongoing fight against insurgency, terrorism, and criminality.

In his words, “The story of Christmas, starting in a humble manger, teaches us that even in modest circumstances, the spark of hope can be ignited.

This hope is the essence of our fight against insurgency, terrorism, and all forms of criminality.” The Chief of the Air Staff concluded by expressing pride and gratitude for the troops’ gallant efforts, highlighting their role as a beacon of hope for all Nigerians.
