Chief of Army Staff marks Christmas alongside troops in Sokoto

On Monday, Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), celebrated Christmas with troops in Sokoto, emphasizing that the military sacrifices for the nation and humanity. 

Lagbaja urged personnel to stay committed to ensuring people’s safety and protecting the country’s territorial integrity.

He highlighted the Nigerian Army’s successes and commended gallant troops for their efforts, assuring that more equipment would be provided next year for enhanced services.

Lagbaja acknowledged that success involves hard work and challenges, expressing confidence that with support from the executive and legislature, more achievements would follow.

Lagbaja called for residents’ assistance by providing useful information on suspicious movements, emphasizing that security is a collective responsibility.

”Christmas season is unique in many ways because of what it symbolizes, it happened to coincide with my birthday and physical presence of COAS.

The celebration aimed to reunite with troops, including the injured, fostering camaraderie and boosting morale through motivational strategies.

Addressing the troops, Lagbaja empathized with the loneliness military families endure during such seasons, having served in various theaters of operations away from his loved ones. He encouraged dedication and selfless service, assuring continued leadership support.

The General Officer Commanding (GOC), 8 Division of Nigerian Army, Sokoto, Maj.-Gen. Godwin Mutkut, expressed gratitude to the COAS for his inspirational support.

Mutkut noted the COAS’s efforts in rehabilitating accommodations, constructing barracks infrastructure, and providing logistical support.

Acknowledging the unique nature of the Christmas season, coinciding with his birthday and the COAS’s physical presence, Mutkut emphasized the season’s symbolism of love, hope, giving, and sharing.

He appreciated the bravery and dedication of the troops, serving as examples both in and out of uniforms.

COAS inaugurated an indoor sporting hall at Giginya Barracks, showcasing the military’s commitment to well-rounded facilities.

The festivities included songs, traditional dances, and military celebrations, creating a joyous atmosphere among the troops.
