Cameroon Soldiers Intercepts Ammunition Near Borno Border

Security authorities in Cameroon have arrested a 23-year-old man allegedly transporting a large cache of 7.62mm ammunition near the Nigeria-Cameroon border in the Far North Region.

The suspect, identified as Moussa Ngoudja, a Cameroonian national from Sueram in Fotokol, was arrested at about 6:30 a.m. on August 9 during a security operation conducted by members of the Vigilance Committee in Dougoumslio Slio Village.

According to a security source, Ngoudja was intercepted while riding a Boxer motorcycle. Three containers found in his possession were allegedly loaded with several rounds of 7.62mm ammunition.

Preliminary investigations reportedly indicated that Ngoudja told investigators he collected the ammunition from Mada in Makary, Cameroon, and was transporting it to Mdego Village in Fotokol.

The arrest has raised fresh concerns over the movement of ammunition through border communities close to Gamboru in Borno State, an area that has faced persistent terrorist and criminal activities linked to the wider Lake Chad Basin.

Ngoudja is currently being detained at the Hilé Alifa Gendarmerie Brigade, where investigators are working to establish the source of the ammunition and determine whether the suspect was acting alone or was part of a wider trafficking network operating along the Cameroon-Nigeria border.

Authorities are expected to continue their investigations as security agencies intensify efforts to curb the movement of arms and ammunition across border communities in the region.
