CAF has announced December 16, 2024, as the official date for its awards gala, which will take place in Marrakech, Morocco, marking the third consecutive time the country hosts the prestigious event.
Nigerian forward Victor Osimhen is the current African Footballer of the Year (men’s category), while Asisat Oshoala holds the title in the women’s category, having outperformed her rivals to secure the award.
The CAF Awards celebrate outstanding achievements in both club and national competitions, culminating in the coveted African Player of the Year titles for men and women.
Ademola Lookman is considered a strong contender for this year’s award following an impressive season with Atalanta, where he helped the club win its first trophy in over 60 years, becoming the first African player to score a hat-trick for the Italian side.
Lookman also played a crucial role in Nigeria’s run to the 2024 AFCON final, though the Super Eagles were narrowly defeated by hosts Ivory Coast in a thrilling showdown.
However, Lookman will face tough competition from several standout African players, including Mohamed Salah (Liverpool), compatriot Victor Osimhen, Brahim Diaz (Real Madrid), and Serhou Guirassy (Borussia Dortmund).
