Bukola Saraki Faults Kwara Governor Over Revival of Offa Robbery Case

Former Senate President and ex-Governor of Kwara State, Dr. Bukola Saraki, has accused Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of weaponising the judiciary to pursue a political vendetta, following renewed attempts to link him to the 2018 Offa robbery incident.
In a statement issued on Friday night via his verified Facebook page, Saraki described the move as a “desperate attempt to settle political scores,” insisting he has no direct or indirect connection to the robbery or any criminal activity.
He stated that although he could have ignored the allegations, he chose to respond due to concerns raised by Nigerians, reiterating that multiple investigations had previously cleared him of any wrongdoing.
According to Saraki, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), acting on advice from the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation, had twice found no evidence linking him to the crime.
Saraki further alleged that the Offa robbery case was initially politicised during the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari as part of efforts to weaken his political influence ahead of the 2019 elections. He described the case as an “instrument of blackmail” aimed at dismantling his political structure.
He noted that suspects already prosecuted in connection with the robbery had been convicted at both trial and appellate levels, with the matter currently before the Supreme Court.
He accused Governor AbdulRazaq of reviving the allegations only after he criticised the state government’s handling of insecurity in a recent interview.
Describing the development as an abuse of court process, Saraki expressed confidence that his legal team would challenge any fresh moves against him.
He also criticised the governor for allegedly neglecting security challenges in the state, claiming that over 400 lives had been lost to banditry.
Saraki concluded by warning that such actions undermine the integrity of public office, describing the situation as “dirty politics taken too far.”
