The Edo State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to accelerating development, attracting investments and creating more opportunities for residents as the state marks its 35th anniversary.
Deputy Gov. Dennis Idahosa made the pledge in a goodwill message on Wednesday in Benin, where he congratulated Edo residents on the anniversary of the state’s creation.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the former Bendel State was divided on Aug. 27, 1991, by the military administration of then President Ibrahim Babangida, creating Edo and Delta states.
Idahosa described the creation of Edo as a defining moment in the history of its people, noting that residents had made significant contributions to Nigeria and the global community in education, agriculture, commerce, politics, sports, entertainment and other fields.
He also acknowledged successive administrations for laying the foundation upon which the present government was building.
According to him, the Gov. Monday Okpebholo-led administration is driving development through its SHINE Agenda, with emphasis on infrastructure, healthcare, education, security, human capital development and economic growth.
He said the government was reconstructing and rehabilitating major roads, improving healthcare and education, and strengthening the state’s security architecture.
Idahosa added that the administration was also working to attract investment, create jobs, and expand opportunities for youth while restoring public confidence in government.
“The work may be enormous, but our determination is greater,” he said.
The deputy governor stressed that the administration remained committed to building an Edo where businesses could thrive and residents could achieve greater prosperity.
He identified the people as the state’s greatest asset and called for stronger unity and collective action to drive development.
Idahosa urged Edo residents to use the anniversary to reflect on the state’s achievements and challenges over the past 35 years and renew their commitment to building a better future.
On behalf of my family and the government of the state, I congratulate every Edo son and daughter on this auspicious occasion.
“May the next 35 years bring greater prosperity, peace, security, development and opportunities to our people,” he said.
He wished Edo residents a happy 35th anniversary and prayed for continued peace, progress and prosperity in the state and Nigeria.
