Former President Muhammadu Buhari is scheduled to visit Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, following the peaceful transfer of leadership to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on May 29, 2023. The occasion will be marked by a vibrant ceremony at the Eagle Square.
During his visit, the former president plans to attend the presentation of two books dedicated to his legacy. One of the books, titled “Working with Buhari: Reflections of a Special Adviser,” is authored by Femi Adesina, who served as Buhari’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity.
The second book, “Muhammadu Buhari: The Nigerian Legacy (2015-2023),” is a compilation by various Nigerian scholars and edited by Dr. Udu Yakubu.
At a pre-launch press conference in Abuja, Femi Adesina, the former Special Adviser, expressed his motivation for writing the book.
He aimed to present the authentic narrative of Buhari’s persona, countering speculations often propagated by critics.
Adesina shared insights into key decisions made by Buhari and highlighted the real aspects of the former Nigerian military leader.
The book also chronicles Buhari’s significant achievements, providing a factual record for posterity.
Adesina, who had known Buhari before his presidency, emphasized his deep respect for the leader, explaining that despite initially not seeking government employment, he accepted the appointment due to his admiration for Buhari.
Chief Adesina, reflecting on his tenure, expressed satisfaction and joy, noting Buhari’s consistent appreciation for his work, both privately and publicly.
He proudly stated that he made history as the first Nigerian to serve eight unbroken years as a Special Adviser on Media and Publicity.
The second book, “Muhammadu Buhari: The Nigerian Legacy (2015-2023),” was discussed by its editor, Dr. Udu Yakubu, during the press conference.
Dr. Yakubu clarified that the five-volume compendium aimed to comprehensively document the work done by the Buhari administration over eight years.
Highlighting the uniqueness of the project, Dr. Yakubu mentioned that it involved over 100 contributors from various fields, providing diverse perspectives on the Buhari administration.
Importantly, he emphasized that the project was a private sector initiative, intentionally avoiding government support to ensure editorial independence and impartiality.
Ambassador Chijioke Wigwe, the Editorial Coordinator, expressed confidence that Nigerians would gain a deeper appreciation for former President Buhari after reading these two extensive books.
He commended the authors for their dedication to providing an unbiased and comprehensive account of Buhari’s legacy.
