A former aide to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, Bashir Ahmad, has taken a swipe at former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi amid reports of a possible political shift from the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
In a post on his X account, Ahmad claimed there are growing indications that Obi and his supporters may be considering another exit from their current platform, fueling fresh concerns about his readiness to confront internal party competition.
Drawing parallels with the 2022 political realignments ahead of the 2023 elections, Ahmad argued that repeatedly sidestepping party primaries could erode confidence in a candidate’s national appeal.
“If a political figure appears reluctant to test their popularity within their own party, it raises serious doubts about their ability to build the broad consensus required to govern a country as complex as Nigeria.” He said.
He further stressed that party primaries remain a cornerstone of democratic legitimacy, warning that any struggle to compete within party structures could weaken claims of unifying a diverse nation with competing interests.
