Borno Reiterates Ban on Motorcycles Due to Security Concerns

The Borno State government has restated its ban on motorcycle usage across the state due to ongoing security concerns.
This ban, initially implemented in 2014, was aimed at curbing the activities of the Boko Haram insurgency in the State.
The state’s Commissioner for Information and Internal Security, Prof. Usman Tar, who informed reporters about the conclusions reached during the 4th session of the state security meeting held in Maiduguri on Friday, emphasized the council’s warning against the extortion of motorists.
Furthermore, the state security meeting highlighted the importance of continuing both kinetic and non-kinetic approaches in combating insurgent activities.
The council commended the efforts made so far and urged for the collaboration of various agencies to maintain security measures.
Additionally, the council discussed the issue of illegal mining and reinforced the prohibition of such activities. Security agencies were directed to enforce this ban effectively.
The meeting also addressed the issue of inmates eligible for release under the prerogative of mercy, urging the Ministry of Justice and correctional authorities to identify suitable candidates.
Moreover, there was a reaffirmation of support for the government’s decision to facilitate the return of displaced persons and refugees to their native lands. All security agencies were urged to assist in this process.
The council also deliberated on the clearance of farmland to ensure food security and sustainability within the state.
