Kano Pillars’ Coach Considers Resignation Amid Threats

Kano Pillars' Coach Abdu Maikaba Has Been Placed on Suspension

The Kano Pillars’ coach, Abdullahi Maikaba, has voiced his frustration and hinted at the possibility of resigning from his position.
Maikaba, who assumed his role on July 24, 2023, boasts an extensive coaching background in Nigeria’s Premier Football League (NPFL), having worked with Enyimba, Akwa United, Plateau United, and Enugu Rangers before joining Kano Pillars.
However, his tenure at Kano Pillars hasn’t met expectations, with the team struggling to perform consistently in the NPFL.
The four-time champions have faced significant challenges, registering 14 defeats, 5 draws, and just 13 wins in 32 games.
These results have left Pillars languishing in the 9th position with 44 points, a considerable distance from both the relegation zone and the top spot.
In an interview with reporters, Maikaba attributed the team’s struggles to insufficient funding and a lack of support from the club’s stakeholders.
He emphasized the need for a conducive working environment to achieve success, expressing his discontent with the current situation in Kano.
Maikaba’s hopes for improvement are pinned on recent changes within the club’s leadership, particularly the appointment of Mustapha Rabiu Kwankwaso as the new commissioner for sports by the state government.
He believes that this fresh perspective could potentially lead to positive developments for Kano Pillars.
“I need a conducive environment to work. I’m not conducive in Kano,” Maikaba remarked. He hinted at ongoing discussions with the management and suggested that if necessary, he would consider terminating his contract.
”I’m discussing with the management in days. If it warrants terminating the contract, I will do that.”
The appointment of new youth sports commissioner in Kano has raised Maikaba’s optimism, as he anticipates that this change might herald a turning point for the club.
