Residents of Biu Local Government Area in Borno State have been thrown into mourning following the abduction of about 12 young men by suspected Boko Haram terrorists along the Buratai–Dutsin Kura–Damaturu road on Thursday.
The victims were reportedly travelling along the dangerous route when they were intercepted and taken away by the insurgents, raising fresh concerns over the security situation in the region.
Community members described the incident as not only devastating to the families of the victims but also a painful reminder of the persistent insecurity affecting Borno State and the country at large.
Speaking on the development, some residents of Biu LGA lamented that the attack highlights the continued threat posed by insurgents, urging people, especially young travellers, to avoid the road for now.
“No journey is worth risking your life,” a resident cautioned, emphasizing the need for increased vigilance.
The residents also pointed out that the poor condition of the road has worsened the security risk, noting that bad roads slow down vehicles and make travellers more vulnerable to attacks.
They called on the government to urgently address both the security challenges and the deteriorating state of the area’s infrastructure, stressing that immediate intervention is needed to prevent further tragedies.
