Beta Edu is under investigation by EFCC for embezzling $1.5mn from Cross River

As per details gathered by investigators, Rovingupdates has acquired information indicating that the ex-minister, Beta Edu, encountered allegations of mishandling finances while serving as the Commissioner of Health in Cross Rivers State.

It has come to our attention through investigative personnel that there were claims of financial mismanagement against Beta Edu during her tenure in the aforementioned position overseeing health matters in the state of Cross Rivers.

The source revealed, “Beta Edu, the former Minister for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, who is currently under investigation for allegedly diverting N585 million, is also facing scrutiny for purportedly misappropriating a $1.5 million World Bank grant during her tenure as a Cross River State official.”

“Edu, previously serving as a Special Adviser on Community and Primary Healthcare and later as the Commissioner for Health in Cross River State, is accused of transferring the $1.5 million World Bank grant to a private account.

Subsequently, the funds reportedly ended up in the account of a Bureau De Change, which later converted the dollars to Naira and transferred them to a dedicated account belonging to the former Minister.”

“The proprietor of the Bureau De Change has already provided investigators with details regarding his involvement in the transaction.”

Beta Edu is under investigation for both the alleged diversion of N585 million and the suspected misappropriation of a $1.5 million World Bank grant, with claims that the funds were maneuvered through a Bureau De Change before reaching the former minister’s dedicated account.

The BDC owner has cooperated with investigators by disclosing the role played in the transaction.
