Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia brought widespread joy to Benue State on Friday as he kept his promise to pay civil servants and pensioners their salaries and gratuities on December 15, ensuring they can celebrate Christmas and New Year without financial stress.

Numerous pensioners and civil servants, expressing their jubilation, received two months’ worth of payment, in line with the governor’s earlier commitment made during the handover of 100 buses to the state-owned transport company, Benue Links Nigeria Limited, as part of palliative measures.

This benevolent action, aimed at allowing the people of the state to enjoy the festive season without financial concerns, serves as a testament to the governor’s dedication to fulfilling his campaign promises.

Governor Alia, often referred to as “Mr Talk and Do” by the state’s residents, has once again demonstrated his commitment, earning trust and respect.

The prompt disbursement of salaries and pensions underscores the government’s unwavering commitment to prioritizing the welfare of workers and retirees, even amid economic challenges.

This is expected to ease financial burdens and enhance the well-being of both direct and indirect beneficiaries throughout the state.

An anonymous pensioner, speaking to the media, expressed gratitude for Governor Alia’s proactive governance approach.

The pensioner highlighted the governor’s notable achievements in just six months in office, including the construction of 16 township streets, extensive reactivation of street lights, complete renovation of the State House of Assembly complex, refurbishment of the State Secretariat complex housing various ministries, and the revitalization of the State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH).

Another civil servant, Thomas Zever, praised the governor for consistently fulfilling promises to workers, noting that this has further endeared him to the people. Zever emphasized that such gestures solidify the governor’s reputation as a leader who not only communicates effectively but also takes decisive actions to address the challenges faced by the state’s residents.

The positive impact of these initiatives is evident as many pensioners and civil servants have flocked to the markets to purchase items for both Christmas and New Year, preparing for a joyous festive season made possible by the governor’s proactive governance and commitment to the welfare of the people.
