The Nigerian Army has confirmed that its troops killed 10 suspected Boko Haram terrorists during a heavy gun battle following an ambush along the Maiduguri–Monguno Road in Borno State on Friday morning.
According to a source, the troops came under attack while on patrol, prompting a fierce exchange of fire with the assailants.
The soldiers reportedly responded with superior firepower, neutralising 10 of the insurgents in the encounter.
During the confrontation, four soldiers sustained varying degrees of injuries and were immediately evacuated for medical treatment. Their condition has not yet been fully disclosed.
The operation is linked to ongoing counterinsurgency efforts against the Boko Haram in Nigeria’s North-East region, where the military has intensified offensives to clear remaining terrorist hideouts.
Security operations in the area have since been reinforced to prevent further attacks along the strategic Maiduguri–Monguno axis.
