The General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 8 Division of the Nigerian Army in Sokoto, Maj.-Gen. Bemgba Koughna has reiterated the military’s resolve to strengthen interagency collaboration and sustain professional growth across the Armed Forces.

Koughna made this known while hosting participants of the Air Force War College Course 12/2026, who were in Sokoto on a national study tour on Tuesday.

Speaking through the Division’s Chief of Staff, Brig.-Gen. Ibrahim Gambari, the GOC received the Commandant, directing staff, and course participants, urging them to take full advantage of the visit by understudying the division’s operations, particularly its efforts toward restoring stability in the region.

He explained that the creation of the division was driven by urgent security demands, noting that its operations are closely tied to the fight against insecurity under Operation FANSAN YAMMA and other initiatives across the North-West.

In his address, the Commandant of the Air Force War College, Air Vice Marshal Gambo Mbaka, said the study tour was designed to broaden participants’ grasp of operational and strategic air power in aiding civil authorities and fostering national development.

Mbaka outlined the structure of the exercise, revealing that participants had been split into three groups for field operations—Team A in Sokoto State, Team B in Kebbi, and Team C in Zamfara.

He stressed that the exercise would expose participants directly to the realities of security threats in the North-West, while highlighting the coordinated roles of the 8 Division, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, and other security outfits in addressing the challenges.

Emphasising the importance of blending theory with real-world experience, “While classroom instruction in operational art and joint planning is foundational, direct engagement with institutions sharpens professional judgment and operational readiness,” he said.
