A 30-year-old man was on Tuesday brought before an Ojo Magistrates’ Court in Lagos over allegations of stealing a mobile phone.

The accused appeared before Magistrate Lateef Layeni on a single count bordering on theft but pleaded not guilty.

Prosecuting counsel, ASP Simon Uche, informed the court that the incident occurred on April 17 in the Ajangbadi area of Ojo.

Uche told the court that the defendant allegedly stole an Infinix Note 12 valued at N140,000, property of a businesswoman, Ms Funmi Nife.

According to the prosecutor, the suspect was caught by security personnel on duty in the area and reportedly admitted to being involved in repeated phone theft.

He added that the offence violates Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Magistrate Layeni admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N300,000 with two sureties in like amount and adjourned the matter until May 21 for mention.
