The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, has declared that the Nigerian Armed Forces will “give no quarter” to individuals and groups threatening the nation’s unity, peace, and progress.
Gen. Oluyede made the statement in a goodwill message to mark the 2026 Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day (AFCRD), where he paid tribute to fallen heroes whose sacrifices, he said, secured Nigeria’s freedom and democratic ideals.
He described their devotion to duty as a noble expression of patriotism, assuring that their legacies would be eternally honoured, while also acknowledging the resilience and sacrifices of their families.
The defence chief commended troops currently deployed across various theatres of operation for their professionalism, courage, and loyalty, noting that their operational successes continue to strengthen national security.
He said the battle scars borne by soldiers remain enduring testimonies of valour and unwavering commitment to defending Nigeria against local and trans-border threats.
Gen. Oluyede emphasised that troop welfare remains a top priority under his military strategic philosophy, which focuses on enhanced jointness, improved welfare, and sound administration, anchored on a whole-of-government approach.
He also expressed deep appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, for his leadership and continued support of the military.
Reaffirming the armed forces’ commitment to safeguarding democracy and national stability, the CDS urged Nigerians to use the remembrance period to promote unity and reject divisive tendencies.
He called on citizens to wear the remembrance emblem with pride as a symbol of gratitude to fallen heroes and serving personnel.
Gen. Oluyede prayed for the eternal rest of the departed and reiterated the military’s resolve to secure a peaceful and prosperous Nigeria.
