APC In Trouble Waters As PDP, NNPP, SDP Merger Plans Thicken

Seven political parties under the aegis of ‘the Coalition of Concerned Political Parties (CCPP)’, met on Wednesday, December 6, 2023 at the National Secretariat of the SDP in Abuja, to deliberate on what they described as ‘an offer of strong opposition for the good of Nigeria’.

“This coalition wants to offer strong opposition for the good of Nigeria. Our duty is to offer alternative solutions to government policies”.

Addressing journalists at the end of the meeting, Chairman of the SDP, Shehu Gabam, said that the development was not a merger and was also not against the Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC).

Present in the alliance were leaderships of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), the Young Progressives Party (YPP), the African Democratic Congress (ADC), the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), and the African Democratic Congress (ADC

The meeting is coming few weeks after the former vice president and presidential candidate of the Peoples’ Democratic Party in the 2023 General election Atiku Abubakar called on the opposition parties to form an alliance and take over power from the ruling APC.

While playing host to the National Executive Committee of the Inter-Party Advisory Council Nigeria (IPAC) at his residence on November 14, 2023, Atiku warned against plunging the country into a one-party state by the APC hence the need for political parties to form an alliance in order to save the Nigerian democracy.
