Anambra To Begin Measles Vaccination For One Million Children

Anambra State is set to launch a major measles vaccination campaign aimed at immunizing over 1.1 million children.

Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration is coordinating the initiative to mitigate the impact of measles across the state.

During a zonal meeting in Enugu organized by the United Nations Children’s Fund and the National Orientation Agency, Mrs. Uju Onwuegbuzina, the State Health Educator at the Anambra State Primary Health Care Development Agency, announced the acquisition of 1,227,113 doses of the vaccine.

The campaign is scheduled to run from October 12 to 18, 2024, covering all 330 wards in the state’s 21 local government areas.

The vaccination will take place at various locations, including health facilities, mobile posts, churches, schools, and marketplaces, ensuring accessibility for all children.

Dr. Hillary Ozoh, a social behavioural change specialist with UNICEF, highlighted the importance of media involvement in achieving a national vaccination coverage goal of 95%.

He urged journalists to report on the campaign in an informative manner to raise awareness about the critical need for measles vaccination.
