Anambra LG Polls: PDP Warns Electoral Body Against Result Rigging, Manipulation

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in Anambra State, said on Thursday that it will not tolerate any form of rigging or result manipulation during the state’s upcoming local government elections.
On Wednesday, the State Governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo had at the Governor’s Lodge, Amawbia, inaugurated the members of the State Independent Electoral Commission, ANSIEC, with a charge to proceed to work out details for the conduct of LG elections in the state shortly.
Despite the people’s applause over the inauguration, which is a major step towards ending the state’s negative record of not conducting LG elections in over 18 years, opposition quarters in the state have expressed concerns over the capacity of the ANSIEC members to conduct a free, fair and credible election.
At a press briefing on Thursday, the State Chairman of the PDP, Engr. Igwe Chigozie urged the newly inaugurated Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC) to ensure a free and fair local government election in the state.
According to Igwe, there is a need for ANSIEC to maintain its independence and avoid bias towards the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) government.
He warned that the PDP would not tolerate any form of manipulation or rigging in the upcoming local government elections.
He said the party is fully prepared and positioned to win the majority of the elections.
“The PDP has been strategizing and working tirelessly towards the future elections in the state, including the 2025 governorship elections,” he said.
Igwe urged ANSIEC to adhere to the principles of transparency, fairness, and impartiality in the planning and conduct of the elections.
He emphasized that anything short of that would be unacceptable to the PDP and the people of Anambra State.
Igwe also called on the electoral body to ensure that all eligible voters are allowed to participate in the electoral process without any form of intimidation or harassment.
Igwe expressed confidence in the PDP’s ability to win the local government elections, citing the party’s growing popularity and acceptance among the people of Anambra State.
He assured that the PDP would continue to work hard to ensure victory in the anticipated elections, reiterating the party’s commitment to democratic principles and its determination to ensure that the will of the people prevails in the forthcoming local government elections in Anambra State.
