American Missionary Accuses Benue Govt of Blocking Rebuilding of Bandit-Hit Yelwata

An American missionary has accused the Benue State Government of deliberately frustrating his plans to rebuild Yelwata village, recently devastated by bandit attacks.

The missionary claimed that his attempt to construct a community market for displaced residents was rejected by the state government, which instead presented him with a market design allegedly priced at ₦300 million.

He dismissed the proposal as excessive and unrealistic, insisting the same project could be completed for no more than ₦60 million.

“There is no village market anywhere in Nigeria that should cost ₦300 million,” he reportedly said.

The missionary further alleged that some individuals are exploiting the hardship of Benue residents affected by banditry, turning a humanitarian crisis into an opportunity for personal enrichment.
