Former American footballer Alexi Lalas criticized the organizers of the 2024 Copa America final for Shakira’s music concert.
Shakira was scheduled to entertain fans during halftime of the final game between Argentina and Colombia at Hard Rock Stadium, Florida.
Lalas said the Colombian singer didn’t receive the necessary support for a successful performance.
On his State of the Union podcast, Lalas said, “I have nothing against Shakira; she seems to be a big star. The performance wasn’t historic or memorable.
“It felt strange to me. She came out alone, and people were wondering, ‘Where are the backup dancers?’
“She eventually had backup dancers, but at first, it looked odd.
“My main issue was the lighting. Whoever did the production needs to be fired.
“The lighting on her legs, possibly due to some fishnet outfit, cast shadows that made her legs look like they had fish scales. No performer wants that. It was a bad and unnecessary decision.
“They should have figured out the lighting properly. They did a disservice to the artist.”
