The Akran of Badagry, Aholu Menu Toyi 1, has called on traditional rulers across the country to remain steadfast as custodians of peace and unity, warning that harmony does not thrive by chance but by conscious effort.
The royal counsel was contained in a New Year message endorsed by Chief Afolabi Hunkanlin, Secretary to the Akran in Badagry, where the monarch urged residents of the ancient coastal town to keep their differences in check and their common destiny in sight.
He appealed to the various ethnic nationalities in Badagry; Awori, Egun, Weme, Wheda, Seton and others to close ranks, lean on one another and pursue collective progress for the good of the border community.
“Let Awori and Egun collaborate, Weme and Alada partner, Whlanu and Ga connect, Wheda and Seton unite with the Devi and let us all be our brother’s keeper.
“To our political leaders, local government chairmen, state legislators, I urge you to work together for the betterment of Badagry.
“Let us put the needs of our people first,” he said.
The monarch praised the prevailing calm and mutual coexistence in Badagry, describing it as proof that when a people pull in one direction, peace answers their call.
“However, we mustn’t relent in ensuring our security remains paramount.
“All hands must be on deck as we work together to maintain this peace.
“My gratitude to our dedicated security agencies: the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Navy, Nigerian Air Force, Civil Defense, Federal Road Safety Corps, Department of State Security, Nigerian Customs and others.
“Your tireless efforts are the backbone of our community’s peace.
“As we step into this new year, let us rededicate ourselves to building a stronger, more prosperous Badagry.
“Let us continue to promote peace, unity, and development in our community.
“May this new year bring joy, peace, and prosperity to Badagry and beyond,” the traditional ruler said.
