Adamawa State University Prohibits Marker, Sign-Out Celebrations Over Security Concerns

Adamawa State University (ADSU), Mubi, has banned all forms of marker and sign-out celebrations by graduating students, citing concerns over security, discipline and the institution’s reputation.
The directive was contained in a circular signed by the university’s Registrar, Aminu Alkali, following what the management described as an unhealthy trend associated with sign-out activities.
According to the circular, some graduating students have engaged in practices such as writing on clothing, defacing personal appearances and participating in other forms of celebration considered inconsistent with the institution’s moral, cultural and security standards.

The university acknowledged the excitement that comes with completing academic programmes but stressed that such celebrations must not undermine the dignity, decorum and values of the institution.
The management stated that the banned activities contradict the moral and cultural values upheld by the university and society, pose security risks by encouraging disorderly conduct and crowd disturbances, and damage the institution’s image and integrity.
As a result, ADSU announced that all forms of marker and sign-out celebrations are now strictly prohibited. Graduating students were urged to celebrate their academic achievements in a responsible manner that reflects discipline, respect for themselves and others, and the core values of the university.
The university further directed security personnel and relevant authorities to ensure strict enforcement of the directive, warning that any student found violating the ban would face disciplinary action in accordance with the institution’s rules and regulations.
