The Oyo State Police Command has arrested three suspects allegedly involved in the murder and robbery of a family at Oloba Village in the Lagelu Local Government Area of Ibadan.
The suspects were accused of invading the residence of Ifeanyi Chukwu, his wife and their four children on September 22, 2026, killing members of the family and throwing their bodies into a nearby river.
The command’s spokesperson, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday, October 6, 2026.
According to Ayanlade, the suspects were identified as Hammed Akinbami, Akinbami Ojo and Padonu Edward, all residents of Oloba Village.
He said the trio allegedly stormed the family’s residence armed with a locally made Dane gun, two cutlasses and a club.
During the attack, the suspects allegedly stole ₦200,000 in cash, a Boxer motorcycle, a Doma machine with chainsaw and a spraying machine.
Ayanlade said Hammed Akinbami allegedly shot the husband, while Akinbami Ojo and Padonu Edward attacked the wife, hitting her on the head.
The police spokesperson further alleged that the suspects tied two of the couple’s children by their hands and legs before throwing them into a nearby river.
The remaining members of the family were also allegedly killed, with their bodies subsequently dumped in the same river.
The remains of the woman have since been recovered, while police and other responders are continuing efforts to recover the remains of the other victims.
The three suspects remain in police custody as investigation into the incident continues.
