FRSC Records 88.9% Drop in Road Crash Deaths in Gombe

—

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Gombe State has recorded an 88.9 percent decline in road crash deaths between July and September 2026.

The Sector Commander, Samson Kaura, disclosed this on Wednesday while reviewing the corps’ operations for the third quarter of 2026.

Kaura said four people died in road crashes during the period, compared with 36 deaths recorded in 57 crashes in the second quarter.

He said the number of road crashes also declined from 57 in the second quarter to 44 in the period under review.

Comparing the third-quarter figures with the corresponding period in 2025, the commander said fatalities dropped by 73 percent.

He attributed the decline to sustained road safety awareness campaigns, collaboration with relevant stakeholders and improved emergency response services.

“In the third quarter of 2026, we recorded 44 road crashes involving 41 vehicles, including 27 bicycles, motorcycles and tricycles.

“A total of 210 persons were involved: four deaths, 145 injuries, and 61 others were unhurt,” he said.

Kaura identified speeding, dangerous overtaking and overloading as some of the major suspected causes of the crashes.

He urged stakeholders to sustain road safety campaigns in their communities to promote compliance with traffic regulations and safety standards.

The commander also advised motorists to avoid excessive speed, describing it as one of the leading causes of road traffic crashes.

“Speed needs to be controlled before it controls us; kill the speed before it kills us. Speed thrills, but it kills. “Avoid speed and maintain the speed limit as prescribed by the law,” he said.

Kaura said the corps would intensify its sensitization activities in the fourth quarter to improve compliance with traffic rules, promote safer road use and further reduce road crashes.
