The Kano State Government has approved the promotion of 18,984 teaching and non-teaching staff of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), alongside the release of ₦235.1 million to implement the exercise.
The approval was contained in a statement issued on Monday in Kano by the Director-General, Media and Publicity to Gov. Abba Yusuf, Mr Sanusi Bature.

Bature said the approval followed a request by the SUBEB Executive Chairman, Alhaji Yusuf Kabir, for funds to implement the promotions across the state’s 44 Local Government Education Authorities (LGEAs).
He quoted Kabir as saying the affected personnel were eligible teaching and non-teaching staff whose promotions for the January and July 2026 cycles had been processed, including the corresponding salary adjustments.
Kabir said the timely implementation of promotions was crucial to boosting staff morale, career development, capacity building and service delivery in the basic education sector.
He noted that SUBEB was one of the largest public institutions in the state, with about 60,000 teaching and non-teaching personnel serving across the 44 LGEAs.
According to him, the present administration inherited outstanding promotion backlogs, including arrears covering seven years and another backlog spanning one and a half years.

“However, this administration approved and ensured the implementation of the outstanding promotions.
“The intervention significantly boosted staff morale, restored confidence in the service and demonstrated the state government’s commitment to the welfare of public servants,” he said.
Kabir added that the board had completed all necessary processes for the January and July 2026 promotion exercises, including staff eligibility verification and salary adjustment calculations.
