Abia Govt Donates Hilux Vehicles to Correctional Service, FRSC

—

The Abia Government has donated two brand-new Toyota Hilux vehicles to the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCS) and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to boost their operational activities in the state.

The vehicles were handed over to the agencies on Monday by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security Matters, Navy Commander MacDonald Ubah (Rtd.), at the Government House, Umuahia.

Ubah said the donation fulfilled Gov. Alex Otti’s commitment to provide operational vehicles to both agencies and support the repair of vehicles in their existing fleets.

“This is a promise fulfilled because the governor had actually said that he would support both the Federal Road Safety Corps and the Nigeria Correctional Service with a brand-new Hilux,” he said.

He said the vehicles would strengthen the operational capacity of the agencies and enable them to discharge their responsibilities more effectively.

Ubah urged the FRSC to deploy the vehicle towards reducing road crashes in the state to the barest minimum.

He also charged the NCS to strengthen the supervision of inmates and ensure their timely appearance in court whenever required.

Receiving the vehicle, the FRSC Sector Commander in Abia, Mrs Ngozi Ezeoma, thanked the governor for the gesture, describing it as evidence of the state government’s commitment to protecting lives and property.

Ezeoma pledged that the vehicle would be properly utilized to improve road traffic management and safety administration across the state.

“We will ensure that road crashes are brought to the barest minimum, with zero fatality in Abia State,” she said.

Similarly, the Abia Comptroller of Corrections, Mrs Blessing Iwuanyanwu, expressed appreciation to the state government for providing the service with an operational vehicle.

Iwuanyanwu commended the Otti administration for its support towards improving the operations and welfare of the correctional service in the state.

She noted that the government had also supported the service by providing a gate, rebuilding a damaged perimeter fence and restoring electricity at its office.

“The office where I’m staying used to have no gate, but today, we have a gate there courtesy of the governor,” she said.

Iwuanyanwu said the new vehicle would facilitate the transportation of inmates to court whenever required.

“It will help us take our inmates to court as and when due. In fact, the governor has also made my work easier in Abia State, and I thank him for that,” she said.

She pledged to discharge her responsibilities diligently and ensure effective service delivery in the state.
